Official Release of MotorAI v1: An AI Agent for Electric Motor Design

Introducing the official release of MotorAI v1.0.0, our AI agent for electric motor design, and our vision for 2030.

MotorAI Inc.

On October 4, 2026, we officially released MotorAI v1.0.0, our AI agent for electric motor design. This marks the first full release after roughly two years of research and development, which began in 2024.

Electric motor design involves repeated cycles of modifying CAD geometry, using simulations to evaluate performance, and applying the results to the next design. MotorAI is built to let AI handle these repetitive tasks, allowing engineers to explore more design candidates.

Letting AI Handle Iterative Design and Simulation

Since 2024, we have been developing technology that enables AI to interpret engineers’ instructions and carry out repeated cycles of design, simulation, and evaluation using CAD and CAE software. With MotorAI v1, an AI agent can follow natural-language instructions to edit CAD geometry, run electromagnetic simulations using JMAG-Designer or Ansys Maxwell, review the results, and refine the design.

This reduces the time engineers spend operating software and allows them to test more design candidates.

One License, Design Productivity Equivalent to About 10 Engineers

According to our internal estimates, MotorAI can increase the number of design iterations completed per month by approximately 10 times compared with conventional workflows. In terms of design iteration throughput, a single MotorAI license can deliver productivity equivalent to that of roughly 10 electric motor design engineers.

Of course, this does not mean AI can replace the engineering judgment of 10 people. Human expertise is still needed to define performance requirements and constraints, interpret simulation results, and assess manufacturability. What changes is that design iterations can proceed without engineers having to operate simulation software for each one.

We have already seen concrete projects emerge with eight companies in Japan across sectors including automotive and industrial equipment, ranging from product purchases to paid proof-of-concept (PoC) projects. We are also in discussions with approximately three times as many companies about new contracts.

Since 2026, we have been actively exhibiting at international trade shows and have received very strong interest from overseas companies. To make our product available smoothly in local markets, we are in discussions with several prospective local distributors. We expect to be able to begin business operations overseas in the near future.

By 2030: A World Where Engineers No Longer Need to Think About What Happens Inside the Computer

Today, engineers define design directions and constraints, while AI handles CAD operations and simulations. Our next challenge is to broaden the range of engineering decisions that AI can take on.

Experienced engineers do not make decisions based solely on equations and written specifications. They also draw on engineering judgment and quality standards developed through experience to assess the merits of a design. Through dialogue with engineers and repeated design iterations, we aim to incorporate these criteria into the AI design process.

Our goal is to create, by 2030, a world where engineers no longer need to concern themselves with the design, development, and analysis processes taking place on computers.

In the future, engineers will be able to focus on higher-level engineering decisions, such as defining required functions and performance and evaluating practical manufacturing methods. AI will take these requirements and autonomously repeat cycles of design, simulation, and evaluation. Our vision is not limited to electric motors. We aim to extend it to fields including mechanical, electrical, and materials engineering, working across different CAD and CAE tools and connecting design with prototyping and manufacturing.

We aim to use AI to accelerate design and development and strengthen the global competitiveness of Japanese manufacturing. The official release of MotorAI v1 is our first step toward that goal.
